First details of Asus Padfone 2 leak
Handset launching officially on 16 October

Just a matter of months after the initial Asus Padfone was launched, there is a sequel in the works. Unsurprisingly, it goes by the name of the Asus Padfone 2.

The first incarnation of the Padfone (pictured above) was a quirky little number, slipping inside a tablet to create to a second, larger screen device, with a keyboard also available to turn it into a laptop. Will this new version have more tricks up its sleeve? We reckon so, although so far we only have a few basic details to work with.

The company has sent out invites for a Padfone 2 event for 16 October in both Italy and Taiwan, giving nothing away in the process, aside from a glimpse of a corner of the handset, which tells us pretty much nothing.

However, some packaging has now leaked via a Chinese web forum, offering what it claims are the base specifications of the new phone. It could be faked, but it seems like a strange thing to spoof. So for now, we'll go with it.

That packaging tells us that the Padfone 2 packs in a quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, a 13-megapixel camera with full HD video recording, a 4.7-inch 1280 x 720 Super IPS+ display, LTE and 2GB of RAM.

But that's likely to be half the story. The Padfone 2 will have at least two headline-grabbing features to stand out from the crowd. We'll find out just what those are in around three weeks. We'll hopefully find out if the phone will be coming to the UK in any form on that day too.
