iPad Mini shows up online

Although some of these leaks are very close to the eventual reality, all too often, images online of future devices are just a bit of well-constructed guesswork. We're not sure where we stand with these new shots of the iPad Mini.

The images appeared on a Chinese website and show a non-functioning iPad Mini. They could be real, perhaps they are fake. But they do give a fairly decent impression of what we expect the iPad Mini to look like. So real or not, they do a job.

The images show a 7.85-inch device sporting a backplate similar to one leaked recently with a rear-facing camera, a hole on the rear in the centre (the purpose of which is unknown), volume rocker and power buttons and on the glass front, a camera and the home button.

Essentially, it is as you expect, a smaller iPad. Hence the name. It's likely to use the same operating system as the iPhone and (full-sized) iPad and perhaps only really gets interesting when Apple lays bare just how this thing is powered, what it does and how much it costs.

Sadly, you'll have to wait for a launch for that information. That is still likely to be in October.
