iPhone 5 features: What us Brits won't get
13 Sep 2012
Not all iOS 6 Siri and Maps features will survive the swim across the Atlantic...
When Siri crossed the pond last year, she seemed to have suffered some kind of mid-flight dementia, losing most of her useful features (and also changing sex). The lack of local search information, for example, was a glaring omission that left her wallowing alone in the depths of our iPhone, unloved and unused.
Thankfully a lot of Siri's functionality has been restored in iOS 6, which the new iPhone 5 will be rocking upon its release on 21 September. You can ask about local services, request cinema times and movie information, and get updates on sports results (a feature you'd wish was omitted if you're a Wolves fan). However, only US users can reserve tables at restaurants.
We're also getting most of the new Maps features, including traffic updates, turn-by-turn navigation (hopefully with some Siri-style sarcasm thrown in to liven up the commute), satellite maps and business search with photos. However, only our American cousins get the cool 3D flyover effects (you know, the one bit of the presentation that looked really cool).
You can hit Apple's website to check out iOS 6's new features and see which ones will be slashed from the UK version.
