Sony Xperia Tablet S now available in the UK

It got an official debut at the IFA event in August, but generated little fanfare when it was shown off to the press. Now, the Sony Xperia Tablet S has made an equally low key debut in the UK.

Perhaps Sony just had a little too much on show at IFA, taking away some of the spotlight from the company's tablet update. Shame, as our hands on at the event found it 'impressively light and thin', with much less weight and bulk than the original tablet, although it does keep that trademark 'folded page' look.

Feature-wise, this splash-proof tablet runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (although there is talk of an upgrade to 4.1 Jelly Bean) and comes with a 9.4-inch WXGA (1280x800) display, an eight-megapixel rear camera with 1080p video recording, a one-megapixel front-facing camera, 1GB RAM and a 1.3GHz quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor.

So not short of power, that's for sure. But with a tablet market increasingly dominated by budget models, Sony might still have a job convincing us to part with £329 for the 16GB Wi-Fi model or £379 for the 32GB model with Wi-Fi. 3G models will follow too, with a 16GB Wi-Fi and 3G tablet expected to cost £429. All are (or will be) available from the Sony Store.
