HTC confirms 19 September press event
05 Sep 2012
Likely to see introduction of new Windows Phone 8 smartphones
Today, Nokia will make its pitch for the Windows Phone 8 market with a press event showcasing new Lumia handsets. In two weeks time, it looks like HTC will go after that very same market.
The company has sent out particularly vague invites for a New York event, with the message 'save the date' and 'join HTC to see what's next' on 19 September. It doesn't mention Windows Phone 8 at all, so there's no reason to presume this will be a Windows Phone 8-only showcase. But we think it will be.
HTC has already shown off the HTC Desire X at the recent IFA event, so it's unlikely that the company will launch more Android phones so soon. There is also a rumour of a new HTC tablet being in development, but again, that's unlikely to be the headline act.
Instead, you would presume that the event would see the launch of the HTC Accord and possibly other Windows 8 handsets too. The Accord is said to feature a 1.5GHz dual-core MSM8960 processor and a 4.3-inch 720p Super LDC 2 display, along with the latest Windows operating system. But it might not launch as the Accord.
Pocket-lint is quoting an inside source, who says that HTC will launch three Windows phones, going by the name of the HTC 8X, 8V and the 8S. The Accord is likely to be launching as the 8X, with little known about the others as yet, even whether they are above the 'Accord' or not in the range.
We would be very surprised if the bulk of the details didn't break before that 19 September date. But if not, we'll see you in two weeks for the breaking news.
