iPad Mini now set for October launch

Separate launch event confirmed by 'several sources'
The long-running drama known as the iPad Mini should come to an end soon, with 'several sources' confirming that a launch will take place in October.
Those sources have been talking to the AllThingsD site, pointing to a separate launch event away from the showcase for the iPhone 5. It is something we hinted at last week, as a launch of two key hardware pieces on the same day just sounded a little too much for Apple's production partners. A month later doesn't exactly leave much breathing space, but it should be enough to generate initial pre-Christmas stock.
There is another reason too, with Apple perhaps unwilling to take the spotlight off its new mobile phone with the market so competitive. Throwing in an iPad Mini could dilute that focus.
Speaking about this very issue, analyst John Gruber of Daring Fireball commented: 'I don’t think Apple would want reviews of both a new iPhone and new-size iPad appearing at the same time. Why share the spotlight? Why have another Apple product battling with the iPhone for the top spots in news coverage? … The more I think about it, the less sense it makes for the iPhone to even share the stage at the announcement with any other product. The iPhone is too big, too cool, and garners too much attention – and it’s in Apple’s interest to keep that attention undiluted.'
Apple, of course, has refused to comment. But you can take this as something approaching fact.
