Android smartphones sneak out ahead of the IFA show rush

As we've mentioned it quite a lot of late, you are probably aware of the IFA trade show in Berlin, which takes place at the end of this month. We expect a mini avalanche of mobile hardware over the course of those few days, which means some hardware might just get overlooked in the process. A good way of avoiding that is an early launch, which is what Acer has done with the Acer Liquid Gallant and Liquid Gallant Duo.

Not just a day early, Acer has gone for a whole week early, which guarantees its latest hardware prime billing. A shrewd move, especially as the hardware in question isn't of the headline-grabbing variety.

We're in the land of the mid-range smartphone here, with two similar handsets, only really differentiated by the Duo's ability to work with two SIM cards at once. Aside from that, you really can't separate the two.

Which, of course, makes it easy to list the specification for both. The two Ice Cream Sandwich handsets use a 1GHz MT6575 processor and 1GB RAM, with both packing a 4.3-inch qHD capacitive display, five-megapixel camera with LED flash and a 1,500mAh battery. There's also enhanced Surround Sound and 4GB of on-board storage, with a microSD on hand to expand if you need up to 32GB of storage. Colour options are 'Gentle Black' and 'Ceramic White', which is plain old black or white, as far as we can see.

The Liquid Gallant Duo will start hitting the shelves in September 2012, closely followed by the single-SIM variant. The phones will be on display at IFA, so there might be a chance of a hands-on next week.
