Samsung Galaxy II Plus rumoured

Samsung obviously knows it is onto a good thing with its Galaxy line. Not content with knocking out enhanced models, the company even thinks we will be interested in lesser models too. That's what the Samsung Galaxy II Plus seems to suggest.

This is still very much a rumoured handset. But when images and a specification appear on the web, you have to believe that there is an element of truth to it. It might even sneak out at the upcoming IFA trade show. After all, Samsung is hosting an Unpacked event, so it would be the perfect opportunity if there's a spare few minutes at the end.

If or when it does launch, the Samsung Galaxy II Plus (which isn't the confirmed name) could have something of an identity crisis. Not quite a Galaxy S III and hovering above the Galaxy S II, it's a phone that could prove a tough sell for networks. Although it could certainly chalk up some sales if the price is right.

Initial details point to an Ice Cream Sandwich smartphone with a dual-core 1.5GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 4.5-inch AMOLED display, an eight-megapixel camera and 16GB of storage. So it's certainly no budget phone, but if the Galaxy II Plus is priced too high, you might as well make the jump to an S III. Like we said, a tough one for the networks to pitch.

Hopefully Samsung will explain the relative merits of the Galaxy II Plus in the coming days, with a strong possibility that it could be the support act for the Galaxy Note II, which is almost certain to launch on 29 August. If it doesn't launch, I don't think we'll be shedding too many tears.
