Nokia sends out invites to Windows Phone 8 event

Manufacturer likely to launch next generation Lumia handsets on 5 September
A Nokia event was heavily rumoured for this date, and with invites going out, we can now safely assume that Nokia's new Windows hardware will launch next month.
The event will take place in the early morning of 5 September in New York, which just happens to be the first afternoon of the big Nokia World event over here in London. Aside from mentioning both Nokia Lumia and Windows Phone, nothing specific is discussed in the invite, which leaves us to speculate about just what is launching. However, we'll be attending Nokia World so you'll be one of the first to know when the new kit is finally unveiled.
A recent leak showed a front cover for a 4.3-inch Windows Phone, complete with curved corners and room for a front-facing camera and earpiece, along with the capacitive Windows Phone buttons. That could be the basis for the next Lumia phone, but it's not much to go on. This time, both Nokia and Microsoft have kept things super-tight.
The US launch is no surprise. As we mentioned previously, Nokia sees the US as key to its return to form, investing heavily in staff to convince consumers of the company's merits. In the UK, Nokia is rumoured to be looking at revenue sharing to encourage networks to push the new phones.
Of course, all of that needs good hardware, and we'll find out just how good that hardware is in a few weeks time.
