Jelly Bean could head to Galaxy S III on 29 August
Android update to be announced alongside Galaxy Note II

We heard an inside source last month claim that Samsung was 'almost ready to update' its flagship Galaxy S III to Jelly Bean. Now we seem to have a date.

It's not official, but an anonymous source claims that the Android update will be announced on the same day as the Samsung Galaxy Note II launch, which is likely to be at a Samsung Unpacked event on 29 August. Which means the update could be just a couple of weeks away.

Obviously that raises as many questions as answers. It isn't clear if the update will be limited to certain territories or rolled out internationally. There's also the issue of the networks too, which usually adds a bit more time onto any rollout. Hopefully the Unpacked conference will answer all these questions.

Still no news on the Galaxy S II though. The last we heard, Jelly Bean was in for testing with the handset, although initial noises suggested the upgrade would be coming. However, that's unlikely to be dealt with until after the Galaxy S III update.
