Lenovo ThinkPad 2 officially unveiled
Windows 8 tablet coming in October

It leaked at the start of the month, but now the Lenovo ThinkPad 2 has had an official launch.

In a statement, Dilip Bhatia, VP and general manager at the ThinkPad Business Unit, said:  'Today we are excited to reveal the fruit of this collaborative co-engineering, the ThinkPad Tablet 2, a joint effort between Lenovo, Microsoft and Intel.'

Much of what leaked previously has come to pass, with Lenovo confirming that the tablet packs a 10.1-inch HD display, front and rear-facing cameras, Windows 8 for the operating system, an Intel Atom processor, 2GB of RAM, 64GB of storage and a HDMI port. All of that in a tablet measuring 9.8mm thick and weighing 589g. There's also a stylish pen and fingerprint security, should you have an eye on this for business.

When it launches, there should be standard and 3G models on the market, but as yet, no prices are available for either model. That should be revealed ahead of the shelf date, which is 26 October – the same day as Windows 8 lands, as well as the Microsoft Surface tablet.
