Jelly Bean could hit Samsung Galaxy S III next month
End of third quarter should see start of rollout

UPDATE: Samsung has just gotten back to us with an official statement that basically lays the smackdown to the Galaxy S III getting Jelly Bean this month...

The rollout of Android 4.1, Jelly Bean, has started with Galaxy Nexus HSPA+ and Nexus S devices. We will announce updates to the rest of our Galaxy portfolio of devices in due course.

We have heard talk about possible Jelly Bean updates for the Samsung Galaxy S III, but if you believe an insider, that rollout could start in September.

That insider was speaking to the Sam Mobile site and claimed the Jelly Bean firmware for the Galaxy S III has passed the testing stage and engineers are working on the public release of the update. With that in mind, the Samsung Galaxy S III is expected to get Jelly Bean around the end of Q3 to the beginning of Q4 2012.

Obviously that will also have to pass onto the networks and as ever, the rollout is likely to be staggered globally. But it does give you something to go on.

The same source added that other phones will also be getting the update, including the Samsung Galaxy S II and the Galaxy Note, as well as the upcoming second-gen Note. Whether that actually launches with Jelly Bean remains to be seen. The report indicates it might launch with Ice Cream Sandwich, which is a little disappointing.

Saying that, all three of those phones are expected to be upgraded to Jelly Bean in Q4 2012, so not too long to wait.
