Nokia Windows Phone 8 range launching in September

We heard it was launching 'something amazing' in September and now we know what Nokia meant by that phrase. The company is showcasing its new range of Windows Phone 8 handsets at Nokia World.

No surprise really, as Nokia used its Nokia World show last year to introduce the first of its Lumia Windows Phones. According to Bloomberg, the next show, which is a little earlier this year, will let us in on the next generation of Lumia phones. In fact, Nokia will sneak in its launch event ahead of the expected launch of the new iPhone over 5-6 September. The iPhone launch is rumoured for 12 September.

The report, citing 'a person with knowledge of the matter', claims Nokia wants the new Windows 8 handsets on the shelves ahead of the Christmas shopping season.

The main thrust of the Nokia's 'comeback' is said to be aimed at the US, which is key to Nokia's return to prominence. It is said to be trying educate sales staff on the merits of Windows 8, which in turn will hopefully mean sales staff are quick to recommend Nokia as an alternative when customers come in to buy or renew.

In the UK, it seems to have a different system in place. According to previous rumours, Nokia is looking to exclusive deals in Europe, offering revenue sharing to encourage a bigger take up of new phones.

Of course, all of that depends on the hardware being good, not to mention the OS. We will find out just how both measure up in a matter of weeks. With the new iPhone, a new Note and new Lumias, customers renewing at the end of the year look like being spoilt for choice.
