Samsung starts ICS upgrade for Galaxy Tab line
Android 4.0 now rolling out in the UK

Not often that the UK gets something before everyone else, especially Android updates, but that looks to be the case with Ice Cream Sandwich and the Samsung Galaxy Tab range. Or at least, part of it.

Speaking about the rollout, the company said: 'Samsung UK can confirm the rollout of the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus WiFi and Galaxy Tab 10.1 WiFi devices is live. Any further updates for the Galaxy Tab range will be announced in due course.'

Got a  Galaxy Tab 7.7 or a Galaxy Tab 8.9? Updates are expected to follow soon after. If your update is ready to go, you can either connect the device to your computer and get it via the Kies desktop software or download it over-the-air (OTA).

As we hinted at earlier, this is said to be ahead of the US market, so savour the moment when the UK gets something first. Maybe it's down to the Olympics. Or maybe not.

Of course, Ice Cream Sandwich is now a generation behind. With so much time being taken to roll out ICS for the tablets, you wonder if or when Jelly Bean will arrive. It doesn't sound good for this year, that's for sure, although Samsung is putting on a brave face.

The company said: 'The rollout of Android 4.1, Jelly Bean, has started with Galaxy Nexus HSPA+ and Nexus S devices. We will announce updates to the rest of our Galaxy portfolio of devices in due course.'
