Sony Xperia Tipo to get early launch

It launched in June and then in July we heard the first mutterings about the availability of the Sony Xperia Tipo. Now we've heard something more – and it's good news.

The first we heard was regarding the SIM-free model, which was talked about for late August, priced around £135. Now that date looks to have been pushed forward to 8 August. Even better, there are some contract prices available, courtesy of Carphone Warehouse.

Price-wise, the lowest tariff Carphone Warehouse has listed is a £7.50 per month, 24 month contract from Talkmobile with a 'free' handset. That includes 250 minutes, 5,000 texts and 500MB of data. Alternatively, you can go pay-as-you-go from £89.95 via Orange or Vodafone.

As for the Tipo itself, that's an Ice Cream Sandwich smartphone with an 800MHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM7225AA processor, 3.2-inch scratch resistant touch-screen, a 3.2-megapixel camera with 4x digital zoom, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. There's also a dedicated set-up guide and a built-in application enabling users to monitor their data usage. Not exactly top-end, but a decent little handset on the face of it.

If that appeals, you can pre-order now at Carphone Warehouse.
