It has only been on the market for a matter of months, but it looks like the Sony Xperia Arc S has now been put out to grass. It's not the only Sony phone either. The manufacturer used the medium of Facebook to deliver some bad news about the Android Jelly Bean update programme. In a Q&A on the platform, John Cooper, UK product manager for Sony Mobile, inadvertently revealed that the Arc S will not be getting an upgrade to the latest version of Android – the first concrete details of Sony's Jelly Bean plans. Not only that, the Xperia Mini Pro, another phone from last year, was also confirmed not to be getting an update. This tells us two things. Firstly, that Sony has drawn up a schedule for which phones will and will not be upgraded to the new OS. Secondly, that pre-2012 phones are unlikely to be updated. If the Arc S is being passed over, there's little hope for phones with a lower specification. It looks like Sony will go public with that list of upgrades soon. When we get it, we'll pass it on to you. But for now, just presume 2012 is 'yes' and anything before is probably a 'no'.
