Huawei G300 gets ICS update

When it launched back in April, the Huawei G300 was promised an update to the Ice Cream Sandwich version of Android in the future. A couple of months later and Vodafone has stuck to that promise.

Suddenly, that makes it a very attractive option for the price, which is £100 on a pay-as-you-go or for free if you sign a £15.50 monthly deal.

Commenting on the upgrade, Vodafone's IT technical manager Kevin Ralph said: 'It's the first time we've seen Ice Cream Sandwich on a Huawei, and the first time we've seen them do this kind of upgrade…so it's important we test everything and make sure the user will get the best experience.'

Vodafone also described the upgrade process, which effectively shows the manufacturers having to get it right before it goes to the networks. Once the networks have added their own slant on the software, it is tested by the manufacturer and Google before being rolled out. That's why these upgrades take so long.

Anyway, this one is now completed, meaning the update will be heading to your smartphone any day now. If you've not encountered the phone before, it offers a single-core 1GHz processor, 512MB of RAM, a four-inch WVGA touch-screen, a five-megapixel camera, 2.5GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot to boost storage further.

Along with that ICS, of course. See Vodafone if you want one.
