Sony Xperia Tipo now available to order
09 Jul 2012
Secure one for £134.98 SIM-free
The Sony Xperia Tipo launched in the middle of last month, but at the time, Sony didn't give much of a clue as to either the price or the shelf date. We now have the first details of both.
Nothing has been confirmed from Sony, but as ever, the online retailers have given the game away. Well, one has anyway. That retailer is Unlocked Mobiles, which has the phone available for pre-order at £134.98 SIM-free, which sounds about right for a lower level Android smartphone.
Which is effectively what the Tipo is, although it does come with Ice Cream Sandwich for the operating system from the word go, which is more than some higher-priced phones offer. Aside from that, we're talking an 800MHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM7225AA processor, 3.2-inch scratch resistant touch-screen, a 3.2-megapixel camera with 4x digital zoom (no mention of a flash), Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. There's also a 'dedicated set-up guide' and a built-in application enabling users to monitor their data usage.
If you don't want to go free, you can always wait for the networks, which are likely to be offering this on a modest contract. Still time for those details to come through, with the expected delivery date for the SIM-free version down for 20 August 2012.
