Picasa snaps name and locates upcoming Google tablet
We have been throwing a few names around for this over a number of months, but it looks like the official name for the Google tablet is the Asus Nexus 7.
The 'Nexus 7' is the key part here, as the name could be be tweaked to Google Nexus 7 or something similar. You'll probably be calling it the Nexus 7 though, regardless.
How do we know this? Well, it seems someone at Asus has been playing with a prototype. Not just that, the person concerned thought it was a good idea to upload a couple of random snaps to Picasa and Google+. The details sitting along with those photos (which are just ceiling shots) claim the photos were taken by the Nexus 7 from Asus, geo-located in 'Google Building 44'. The images were taken this month, so this isn't some long forgotten prototype.
It's likely to be some last minute testing for a device with an equally likely launch date of this month, specifically at the Google I/O event on 27 June.
The device was caught on camera recently (as you can see here) and the rumoured specification is said to feature a quad-core Tegra 3 processor, 1GB of RAM and Android 4.1 for the operating system, along with front and rear cameras and just about everything Google can throw at it app-wise.
Not long to wait now for confirmation and a shelf date, which is said to be scheduled for July.
