APP WATCH: Dropbox for iOS gets an upgrade
Automatic uploads and access to extra storage space

Apple might have the iCloud, but Dropbox still has a considerable fanbase among iPhone owners. So an upgrade should be widely welcomed.

I say 'should' because the early feedback on the iTunes store has been less than positive, not least because the upgrade doesn't seem to load properly. With that in mind, you might want to think carefully before you upgrade to the latest version. Or at least, wait until the dust has settled.

That's a shame really, as the new version of the app is a jump forward in theory. In essence, it's the same app, offering you your photos, video and docs where you are, with the option to 'favourite' a file for offline viewing.

But the new version now adds in automatic uploading of photos and videos via a Wi-Fi or data network and the ability to 'earn' 3GB of extra space if you opt to upload your snaps automatically - offered up in 500MB increments.

You can also see all the photos and videos you've uploaded to Dropbox in a Gallery view, upload files of any size (storage limits permitting) and move/delete whole sets of files at once.

All of that for free for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.
