Best free Euro 2012 football apps

England's first Euro 2012 match is mere hours away, but what happens if you're stuck in an office or train come 5pm, miles from a telly with no idea of how badly England is playing? Download these free apps for your iPhone, Android or BlackBerry smartphone and you'll get the latest scores, news and team lineups, plus lots more cool features!

LiveScore Euro 2012 (iOS and Android)

Dedicated entirely towards the Euros, the LiveScore Euro 2012 app is surprisingly in-depth. Match breakdowns give you info on every goal, shot, card and foul, as well as full line-ups. You can check out tables for each group, while each nation's fixtures and qualification results can also be examined. Up-to-date news and incredibly detailed info on the stadiums (going as far as how many toilets are available) round off a smart little app, although it’s a shame you can’t set a favourite team for fast access to its news and match reports.

UEFA Euro 2012 Official App (iOS and Android)

The official Euro 2012 app is a very slick and well-designed effort, presenting lots of important info in a neat little package. A smart home page shows today’s fixtures and news, as well as a link to your favourite team’s page. Select a match and you get a countdown to kick-off, plus full line-ups when available. During a match you’ll see full text commentary, a list of highlights and important stats (although these aren’t quite as in-depth as the LiveScore effort). A decent selection of extras include wallpapers, a video centre (which requires a paid-for pass to access) and links to the official Euro 2012 Facebook feed – perfect for commiserating with fellow beery England fans after more heart-wrenching capitulation...

Sky Sports Football Score Centre (iOS, Android and BlackBerry)

As if a smiley Jeff Steling beaming at you wasn’t enough reason to grab this app, you get all the features you’d expect, including fixtures lists, scores and live text/radio commentary for any Euro matches you’re missing out on. The ‘pub finder’ locates your nearest watering hole with Sky Sports, and gamblers even get the latest odds from SkyBet. However, the Sky Sports app lacks the depth of features and info on the tournament that you get from the Euro 2012 apps here.
