APP WATCH: Facebook App Center launches

There's talk of a standalone Facebook phone in the works, but in the meantime, Facebook is looking to strengthen its mobile position with the Facebook App Center.

Available by hitting the Facebook mobile site or by downloading the dedicated apps for both iOS and Android, Facebook App Center is essentially curated app shopping. Curated by your friends.

You'll find a central store, with app suggestions based on ratings and what you friends play and use. Around 600 apps are in the initial pot, including the likes of Nike+ GPS, Ubisoft Ghost Recon Commander, Stitcher Radio, Draw Something and Pinterest, all said to be 'high quality' apps, based on user ratings and engagement and a mix of free and paid apps.

It certainly gives Facebook some more weight in the mobile market, especially with iPhone users. That might be more significant next week, when increased Facebook integration is said to be coming to the iOS 6 operating system. We'll keep you posted on that, but in the meantime, the apps are now available and free.
