HTC brings PlayStation Mobile to handsets

There were reports about this at the start of the year, reports which have now turned out to be true. HTC will indeed be offering PlayStation-certified devices.

Sony confirmed that it has signed HTC to its Sony PlayStation Certified licence programme at the E3 event in Los Angeles, which means owners of compatible phones will be able to play PlayStation classics on the go.

In response to the statement, HTC chief product officer Kouji Kodera said: 'HTC is focused on delivering innovative mobile experiences for people everywhere and SCE's immersive world of gaming will bring compelling entertainment to HTC One customers across the globe.'

But not every HTC phone will be turning into a gaming phone. Right now, the gaming option will only be offered on the One series of phones – the HTC One X, One S, and One V. Perhaps others will follow, that's not clear as yet. After all, this is the first non-Sony company to offer PlayStation Mobile (formerly known as PlayStation Suite).

Other companies are likely to follow the lead though, with SlashGear reporting that PlayStation will be heading to other Android and Windows Phones in the coming months. When those models are confirmed, we'll let you know the details.
