Vodafone Smart II hits the shelves

If the idea of paying out a £40 monthly fee for a smartphone leaves you in a cold sweat, the Vodafone Smart II could be your ideal companion.

Vodafone's budget Android smartphone is new on the shelves this week and selling for considerably less than the big guns. But that's for good reason – the feature set has been significantly reduced.

For your more modest outlay, you get an Android 2.3 Gingerbread smartphone – and that's likely to stay. You can't see this getting an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade in the future. That's down to the 800MHz processor that powers the Smart II.

Also here is a 3.2-inch display with 320x480-pixel resolution, 150MB of internal memory, a microSD slot (a card is included), a 3.2-megapixel camera and colours options of white or grey.

So not a top-end phone by any stretch of the imagination, but at just £70 on pay-as-you-go, did you really expect that?
