APP WATCH: BBC iPlayer heading to Window Phone

Good news for owners of Windows Phones and lovers of the BBC – the BBC iPlayer app is being readied for the platform.

That's according to The Inquirer, which has had word from a Nokia spokesperson ahead of any official launch. In fact, Windows Phone owners won't have long to wait, with the app heading to the Windows Phone Marketplace 'within the next few weeks.'

The spokesperson said: 'BBC iPlayer is expected to arrive on Windows Phone within the next few weeks, a sign that the Windows Phone Marketplace is attracting more developers.'

That's the good news, but now the not-so-good part. It seems that Sky Go is also being prepared for the Windows platform, but not for some time. That same spokesperson said that it will be 'a good few months' before the app will see the light of day. No dates have been announced for the 4OD, ITV Player and Demand 5 apps either.

However, Leila Martine, director of Windows Phone, told attendees at the recent Lumia 610 launch in London that the Windows Phone app Marketplace is growing at a faster pace than the app stores for Android and IOS. It is currently working through 85,000 applications, growing at a rate of 100 per day.
