Sony Tablet P gets Ice Cream Sandwich update

It got a fairly middling review when we got our hands on it some time back, but the Sony Tablet P might become a little more appealing with the addition of Ice Cream Sandwich.

Although it still doesn't address the concerns we had about apps not appearing correctly on the screen(s) and the small video screen playback, for example. Saying that, we're sure some of you were seduced by the quirky layout and if you were one of those people, this is definitely a good news story.

That two-screen layout hasn't stopped the tablet from getting the upgrade, with Sony confirming the new OS in Japan and later on this side of the world – yes, this is a worldwide Android update and rolling out from this week. No precise date, so keep checking that update screen,

Apparently, Ice Cream Sandwich on the Tablet P will work in a slightly different way. For example, small apps lets you operate 'shrunken down features' like a miniature browser window, calculator, or remote control on top of supported apps like the browser, which means you can do two things at once. A bit like having a dashboard.

You will also have the option to go straight to the camera from the lock screen to take panoramic snaps, while a new browser lets you flick between mobile and desktop versions of a site with one button.

All nice if you have the Tablet P. Not sure if it's going to bring in any new customers, especially as the list price is higher than an iPad. Yes, really.
