Ice Cream Sandwich for Sony Xperia S imminent

We really rated the Sony Xperia S, despite it launching without the latest version of Android. But it just might get a little better when Ice Cream Sandwich finally arrives.

That could be sooner than you think, with Sony's support now promising a rollout in the coming weeks. According to the support team: 'Xperia S is planned to get ICS somewhere around late May/early June. That’s what’s been said and that’s still what we’re sticking to.'

'Any other dates (such as 'June/July') is just speculation. The rollout is, as always, gradual and will not happen over night for all phones.'

Obviously we're in the middle of May now, so the update can't be long off. That's if you have a SIM-free model obviously. Contract phones will have to wait for the networks to do the testing.

The update seems to be arriving around the same time as a previously-mentioned rollout for the Xperia Arc, Xperia Play, Xperia Neo, Xperia Mini, Xperia Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, Xperia Active and Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman. All of those were down for updates during that same late May/early June timeframe.

Here's hoping this doesn't all drag on too long. After all, Android 5.0 is here before the year is out.
