LG Optimus 4X HD confirmed for UK

We heard a rumour about a UK launch via an online phone seller, but now LG has given official confirmation of the Optimus 4X HD's launch in the UK.

LG has confirmed a launch in selected territories, those being Germany, Sweden, Italy, Poland and the UK, with June set as the date. Of course, 'June' is a little vague, but we expect the networks to fill in the gaps in the next couple of weeks, along with contract details.

That contract price is likely to be at the top of the scale, as this is very much a top-end phone. Described as a phone that offers a 'HD multimedia experience', the LG Optimus 4X HD packs a large 4.7-inch (1280x720-pixel) True HD IPS display, along with a Nvidia Tegra 3 1.5GHz quad-core processor and 1GB of RAM.

Compared to the just-released LG Optimus L7, which rocks a 4.3-inch WVGA screen and a mere 1GHz single-core processor, that's quite a step up.

There's also 16GB of storage, a 2150mAh battery, an eight-megapixel BSI (Backside Illumination) camera with LED flash, a 1.3-megapixel networking camera and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, as you would expect, for the operating system.

That quad-core processor uses Nvidia's 4-PLUS-1 technology, which utilises a fifth core for the best power efficiency and 'outstanding performance'. When in standby mode, the processor defaults to the fifth, battery-saver core. In a future upgrade, LG will introduce an Eco-Mode specifically for the Optimus 4X HD, which will allow you to manually shut down any of the Tegra 3’s cores for even more control over power consumption and performance.

Also worth noting in the Optimus 4X HD is Quick Memo, which gives one the ability to jot memos or notes over a screen image for saving or sharing with others. Any URLs embedded in memos will directly connect to webpages if required. The phone also offers Media Plex, which offers up thumbnails of your videos, as well as the option to speed up or slow down video and zoom in or out.

If you want it SIM-free, Clove is also offering it for £456. if not, sit tight and wait for the networks. Also, check out our hands-on with the phone.
