Ice Cream Sandwich landing on Samsung Galaxy Note

Good news if you have a Samsung Galaxy Note – it looks like Ice Cream Sandwich is now rolling out on the Android smartphone.

That is 'looks like' for a reason. So far, there has been no official confirmation from Samsung, but there have been a number of reports from users offered both the update and some added extras specifically for the Galaxy Note.

The update is 320MB, offering all the Ice Cream Sandwich enhancements, including the new Face Unlock function, a redesigned menu system, data usage monitor, new camera functions and other general improvements. On top of that, Note owners will also get an enhanced S Memo, which can record your 'thoughts' from the home screen, My Story for creating cards and letters plus S Note, allowing you to add your doodling to webpages, images or maps.

All good then? Well, not quite. So far, notifications about the over-the-air (OTA) updates's availability have been a little random, with little mention of it being available in the UK. Germany seems to be the starting point. But it might be a gradual rollout, so it's worth keeping an eye on your phone over the hours and days.

That, of course, is as long as you have a SIM-free phone. The networks, as ever, will take a little bit longer to test out the update. We'll keep you posted on that.
