Amazon launching nine-inch Kindle Fire?

We did hear that the Amazon Kindle Fire was launching in the UK in January. Well, you've probably noticed that the budget Android tablet didn't land in the UK last month, with no word of any future launch either. But we do have news of another launch, a nine-inch Amazon Kindle Fire.

Yes, it looks like the US might get a second model before we even get a first one, possibly even a third one. Thanks Amazon. The story come from Pacific Crest analyst Chad Bartley, who this week raised his Fire sales estimate, saying: 'We are raising our 2012 sales forecasts to 14.9 million from 12.7 million...we believe there is an upward bias, particularly from the new seven- and nine-inch models, which we expect to launch in mid-2012.'

So there you go. An all-new nine-inch Kindle Fire, which is likely to be aimed squarely at the iPad market (the iPad 3 should be on the market by then), almost certainly undercutting the price of Apple's tablet quite considerably. Interesting to hear that the original seven-inch Kindle Fire is getting a revamp, well under a year since it first got unveiled.

Aside from the size of that new model, details are non-existent right now, but with a few months to go before any launch, that's not really a surprise. If there's a positive for us UK punters, it's that we might well skip the first generation of Kindle Fire and go straight in with the new models, free of all those early teething problems.

Of course, Amazon could launch the initial model here just before the new models land in the US. Surely they wouldn't do that. Would they?
