APP WATCH: Yahoo launches App Search

There are a couple of obvious flaws in this, but the bottom line is that Yahoo has launched its app-specific search engine called App Search in the UK, following on from a December launch in the US.

Yes, all the apps in a single search engine. Whether you are looking for iOS or Android apps, the engine will scour both the Android Market and iTunes. Not that you probably want a search for both, but if you are considering either platform, it might be a good insight into what's the best for your needs.

Once you have found what you need from the (approximately) 500,000 on offer, Yahoo will then direct you to the Android Market or iTunes for you to download the thing. Although you will have to give the search engine your mobile number or scan a QR code on the computer screen. So not exactly an intuitive process, but it does the job after a fashion.

'Only Yahoo App Search has both the search technology and is device agnostic so can offer users a choice of both Android and iPhone,' claimed James Gammon, Yahoo search product marketing manager. 'Yahoo App Search not only makes it easy to find and download apps that you are looking for but also discover new apps'.
