Details of Sony Xperia P emerge

It has been mentioned as the LT22i Nypon in previous leaks, but now the Xperia P looks to be the name of another upcoming Android smartphone from Sony.

That name, bizarrely, comes from the 'Indonesian Telecoms Regulatory' body, with paperwork outlining the name alongside the previous codename for the phone. The same site also lists the Sony Kumquat as the Xperia U, which indicates a new single letter approach to branding from Sony. As far as we're concerned, the more simple the better.

As for the phone itself, well that looks like being launched at the upcoming MWC trade show at the end of the month. If you can't wait that long for details, let us put you out of your misery. Sporting a look not a million miles away from the Xperia S, the Xperia P is said to be a mid-range phone with a NovaThor U8500 dual-core 1GHz processor, four-inch qHD screen and an eight-megapixel Exmor R camera. There's even a price - with the phone expected to sell SIM-free for around £300.

Expect a bumper MWC session, including the Xperia P, at the end of February from Sony. We'll have all the details as they break, as you would expect.
