Dell Streak 7 goes under £100

If a week is a long time in politics, a year in mobile technology is an eternity. Almost exactly one year ago, the Dell Streak 7 was launched at the CES event, with the intention of filling the gap between smartphone and larger tablet devices. Today, it's at a clearance price.

When it finally landed in the UK in April of last year, the mini tablet was selling for £299, with a further discount down the line taking it to just under £200. Now, if you get yourself to PC World (it's only available as a collect in store), you can bag yourself this particular Android for £99.97. A good deal? Well, on the face of it, yes. With one big reservation.

The specification, while not cutting edge, isn't bad one year on. Nvidia’s Tegra 2 dual-core processor is here, as is 512MB RAM, 16GB of on-board storage (which you can expand via SD card), a five-megapixel camera, a 1.3-megapixel camera for networking and a seven-inch WVGA touch-screen display.

But the Android operating system stopped dead at Android 2.2, despite talk of an Android OS upgrade at that launch a year back. Unless you're some kind of technical whizz, you'll be stuck with that, which really does hold it back considerably.

Then again, £99.97 is an attractive price, especially if you just want to indulge in some apps and web browsing. It's your call (and money).
