Asus Transformer Prime gets Ice Cream Sandwich

It landed just before Christmas, but the Asus Transformer Prime launched with Android Honeycomb, much to the disappointment of early adopters. But Asus did say an upgrade would follow 'soon' and true to its word, Ice Cream Sandwich is on its way.

When? 12 January is the date of the Ice Cream Sandwich update, which will be delivered worldwide from that date. It's a big rollout, so it might take time to get to you. But rest assured, your tablet will be getting a makeover and getting it soon. When it does arrive, it will 'improve the focus of the camera, the fluidity of the touch experience, and the APK capabilities in Android Market,' claims Asus on its Facebook page.

The news of the update comes on a day when a miniature version of the tablet was rumoured. The site claims Asus will be releasing a trio of devices at the upcoming CES trade show, including the Asus Transformer Prime Mini. It follows the same design principles, but has a seven-inch instead of 10-inch display, as well as a smaller keyboard dock to 'transform' the tablet. A smaller price is also likely, although those kind of details are some way off.

Look out for that and many more mobile goodies when CES opens its doors – the pick of which will be featured right here.
