BlackBerry P?9981 goes on sale in the UK

It launched back in October and is, without doubt, the most distinctive BlackBerry ever to be produced by RIM. But if you want the BlackBerry P’9981, you'll have to dig deep. Very deep.

The phone has just gone on sale in the UK. If we tell you Harrods is the retailer, you'll know we're not talking budget. Far from it, with the metallic Porsche Design smartphone on the shelves for £1,275. Not that the price is putting people off. Harrods claims the smartphone is 'selling fast' after 'very high demand' for it. Recession? What recession? Saying that, there is stock still on Harrods' shelves, should you want one in either English or Arabic.

Why should you want one? Well, if money really is no object and you are addicted to the BlackBerry experience, this is certainly a phone with some modernist charm and guaranteed to turn heads in the boardroom, thanks to that uber-distinctive stainless steel exterior.

On top of that, there's BlackBerry OS 7 working alongside an exclusive Porsche Design UI and a bespoke augmented reality app, along with a mix of full QWERTY and touch-screen, a 1.2GHz processor, 8GB of on-board memory, a microSD slot and a five-megapixel camera that can shoot 720p HD video. There's also an NFC chip for some contactless payments.

If that appeals, beat a path down to Harrods or give them a call – the store offers mail order too.
