Samsung Galaxy Y Duos and Y Pro Duos launch

We've just reviewed the Samsung Galaxy Y, which we found to be quite decent for the money and for the features it offers. But the Samsung Galaxy Y Duos and Y Pro Duos offer something just a little extra – an extra SIM in fact.

Yes, these are dual-SIM smartphones, should you want to keep parts of your life separate, but don't want the hassle of carrying two phones all the time. Work and play is the obvious reason for wanting a dual-SIM handset, especially if the standard issue work phone is a couple of years old and is the equivalent of carrying round half a housebrick. It's also good if you work abroad a lot and want to use a SIM from that particular country too.

The Y Duos is the first full touch-screen smartphone from Samsung packing two SIM slots, as well as featuring an 832MHz processor, Android 2.3 Gingerbread and Samsung add-ons like the TouchWiz interface, Social Hub, and ChatON. Alternatively, go for the Y Pro Duos with its QWERTY keyboard, 2.6-inch display, Android 2.3 and when you are in work mode, a built-in Polaris Office app that deals with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF files. It also packs Samsung’s Find My Mobile Service, so you can remotely lock or wipe a lost phone.

The rollout of both phones starts in January 2012 in Russia, with the rest of the world to follow. We'll let you know as soon as we hear firm details of the UK launch.
