Sony Ericsson gets Android Ice Cream Sandwich

It's official – we love Ice Cream Sandwich, and Sony Ericsson has confirmed when its Android-powered Xperia range of smartphones will be getting the upgrade to the latest sweetly flavoured version of Android.

Sony Ericsson's product blog has stated that Ice Cream Sandwich, which is the biggest change to the OS to date, will be coming to to the Xperia Arc S, Xperia Neo V and Xperia Ray in March or April. The update will be pushed to devices via an over-the-air update, or users can also plug their handsets in.

May 2012 will see the original Arc, the Xperia Play, the original Neo, Xperia Mini and Mini Pro, plus the Xperia Active and Live with Walkman getting a taste of ICS.

Hopefully Google's recent decision to halt the rollout for its Nexus S won't impact this.

Sony Ericsson (soon to be just Sony) tell us that the updates will be 'phased across several weeks and all kits for a specific phone model will not get the upgrade at the same time'. Which means less strain on their servers and more reliable downloads for us.
