Android Market celebrates 10 billion downloads

Google is having a party to celebrate the Android Market passing 10 billion app downloads – and we're all invited to the shindig.

At least, those of us with an Android device are invited. To mark this 10 billion milestone, you can now get a selection of 10p apps from the Android Market, but only for today. How many? 10 of course. Can you see a pattern forming here?

Get in now with your pocket of virtual loose change and you can get your hands on SoundHound, Asphalt 6: Adrenaline HD, Minecraft, SwiftKey X Keyboard, Endomondo Sports Tracker, Great Little War Game, SketchBook Mobile, Fieldrunners HD, Color & Draw for kids and Paper Camers. All that lot for one shiny pound (or rather, a £1 debit from your account).

Don't fancy those? Well, there's even more good news – more are released each day! This is a 10 for 10 promotion. Which means 10 apps offered over 10 days for 10p each. So 100 paid apps for £10 if you get them all, a veritable bargain in these tough times. Although it does mean you'll be busy downloading apps for the next 10 days. Perhaps too busy to actually use them!

Google can perhaps afford to give out a few cheapies, with the Android Market really taking off this year. According to Google, the Android Market has a growth rate of one billion app downloads per month – and that's before the promotions started.
