Panasonic poised for smartphone return

Japanese giant Panasonic looks set to make a return to the UK smartphone market for the first time since 2006 with the launch of its Lumix camera phones.

The Nikkei Business Daily reports that Panasonic is in talks with 'a major telecoms firm' with a view to launching the range in spring 2012. The corporation aim to target Europe before rolling out into the North American and Asian markets with their Android-based range.

With a forecast of 15 million units to be sold by 2015 – that's three times Panasonic's current Japanese sales – so they're clearly expecting great things from the overseas market.
