No images yet, but details have started to filter through about an official Facebook phone, going by the name of HTC Buffy.Yes, you have heard it all before and all you've seen so far are the likes of the Vodafone 555, Motorola Motokey Social, the INQ Cloud Touch or the HTC CHaCha. But wait, this time it's different.According to All Things D, this isn't just the addition of a blue button, the HTC Buffy is a proper collaboration, running a modified version of Android, which Facebook has 'tweaked heavily' to deeply integrate its services. It also has built-in support for HTML5 as a platform for applications. That's about as much detail as there is now. According to the source, HTC has only just become the partner for the Facebook phone, beating off competition from Samsung. With development time, you'll be looking at this time next year before the handset is seen in action.Facebook has refused to comment specifically, but in a statement, a spokesman for Facebook said: 'Our mobile strategy is simple: We think every mobile device is better if it is deeply social. We’re working across the entire mobile industry; with operators, hardware manufacturers, OS providers, and application developers to bring powerful social experiences to more people around the world.'So not a lot of confirmation there, but it sounds like this particular project is already set in stone. Expect more of the Facebook-friendly phones in the next year or so, but the HTC Buffy looks to be the handset Facebook will be using to make serious inroads into the mobile market.
