If you love your BlackBerry and more specifically love the Gmail app for it, we have some bad news. It looks to be on its way out.Google has used its own blog to announce what it describes as 'deprecation' (running down in other words) of the Gmail App. You can continue to download it until 22 November from BlackBerry App World and use it for the forseeable future. However, it will not be supported by Google, which might be a concern. So what do you do instead? Well, obviously, you have a BlackBerry, so email will still fly into your inbox if you have Gmail set up with the BlackBerry email client. However, if you want to do more, things like labelling, archiving and general admin of your inbox, you'll have to dust off your computer or use the mobile browser-based version. Google adds: 'Over this past year, we've focused efforts on building a great Gmail experience in the mobile browser and will continue investing in this area.'So you've not been completely hung out to dry, but it does seem like an unusual step for Google, which might hint at a wider strategy focusing on and promoting that browser-based version of Gmail. Although, with a new app for the iPhone just launched (and pulled), that's not entirely obvious right now.
