Huawei Vision smartphone also heading our way
The name Huawei probably isn't as household as some manufacturers, but the Chinese firm is certainly on the up and increasing its presence, particularly in the UK. The launch of the MediaPad tablet and the Vision smartphone will definitely help it along the way.
Mobile Choice attended the official launch event for both devices, where it was confirmed both would be available from early 2012. The MediaPad tablet, which will run Android 3.2 Honeycomb, is 10.5mm thick and weighs 390g, offering up a seven-inch IPS LCD capacitive touch-screen, a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm processor, a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, Wi-Fi, HSPA+ 3G, a HDMI port, support for Flash 10.3, the option to use Huawei's Hispace cloud storage and pre-installed applications for the likes of Facebook, Twitter and Documents to go.
The Vision smartphone, which is an Android 2.3 Gingerbread device in an aluminium alloy 'uni-body', features a 3D user interface and is powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM 8255 processor. You'll also find a five-megapixel auto-focus camera with LED flash on-board, as well as support for HD 720p video recording, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, high-speed Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n internet connectivity and a full range of messaging options including SMS, MMS, email, push email and IM.
Both devices will be priced competitively. The Huawei MediaPad UK price (for the Wi-Fi-only version) is £275 plus VAT, while the Vision can be secured at Phones 4u for £25 per month, with more retailers to follow in 2012.
