RIM apologises for BlackBerry outage with apps

If you're a BlackBerry user, move fast. RIM is offering a bunch apps for free as an apology for the recent blackout of its internet services.

The service went down last week, with all internet features unusable, causing headaches (and handy excuses not to do any work) in offices all over the world.

When the BIS and BES servers resumed operations on Friday (14 October), RIM CEOs promised compensation – and it's now been confirmed that will come in the form of apps for all BlackBerry smartphones and the BlackBerry PlayBook.

The list of apps that are free would normally add up to over US$100 (£64), and includes such beefy game titles as The Sims 3, racing game N.O.V.A., and a ton of productivity apps. Here's the full list – go get 'em soon!

Sims 3 (Electronic Arts)
Bejeweled (Electronic Arts)
N.O.V.A. (Gameloft)
Texas Hold'em Poker 2 (Gameloft)
Bubble Bash 2 (Gameloft)
Photo Editor Ultimate (Ice Cold Apps)
DriveSafe.ly Pro (iSpeech.org)
iSpeech Translator Pro (iSpeech.org)
Drive Safe.ly Enterprise (iSpeech.org)
Nobex RadioTM Premium (Nobex)
Shazam Encore (Shazam)
Vlingo Plus: Virtual Assistant (Vlingo)
