We knew it was coming this month, but now we have a date for the UK launch of the Sony Tablet S, which is sooner than you might think. It's actually landing at Dixons (and possibly other retailers) on September 16, which is just 10 days off. So if you want to get a pre-order in, get your skates on. The date is the headline, the price certainly isn't, with Sony obviously hoping that its tablet competes with Apple in terms of features. In short, it doesn't undercut the iPad 2. For the entry-level 16GB model with Wi-Fi, you'll pay the same as the cheapest iPad, which is £399. If you want 3G thrown into the mix, you'll be looking at another £100, bumping the price up to £499.As well as having a higher price, the 3G model is also subject to a slightly longer wait, with stock 'expected' on 21 September. You can still do a pre-order on it though, if you are not in any kind of hurry to grab the Android tablet.Nothing else has changed since the name last week, with the Tablet S still a 9.4-inch device with Nvidia Tegra 2 mobile processor, Android Honeycomb (Wi-Fi-only models with 3.1 and an upgrade to Android 3.2 later, 3G models with 3.2), front- and rear-facing cameras, a USB 2.0 port and SD card slot. There's also that sunlight-friendly screen, which perhaps would have been more of a selling point over summer, plus access to Sony's media and PlayStation services. If all that appeals, get your order in now at Dixons.
