Sony Ericsson Xperia arc S unveiled
01 Sep 2011
More power plus 3D sweep panorama technology
The original Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc was launched in January and reviewed by us back in March. Pretty favourably it has to be said, which is a great starting point for the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S to work from.
The new version isn't a million miles away in truth, but does offer more power and more built-in features. The headline act is a new processor, specifically a 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8255 processor. But that's about it in terms of new hardware. Much of the rest is consistent with the original phone, which means a 4.2-inch Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine, a fully-featured 8.1-megapixel camera with HD video shooting and Sony's Exmor R mobile image sensor.
But that's not the end of the story. Android 2.3 is here from launch, while the Arc S also offers access to Sony's Music Unlimited service and its 10 million tracks, along with the Video Unlimited range, which has the latest Hollywood blockbusters, all-time classics, and TV shows from all major studios. If media on your mobile is important to you, that might swing it. Also on board from launch is 3D sweep panorama technology, allowing you to create 3D sweep panorama images, which can be viewed by connecting the phone to a 3D TV using the HDMI output.
The colour choice will be white, blue, silver, black, and pink, while the shelf date is the last quarter of 2011. Before Christmas, in other words.
