Not content with being attacked on one side by iMessage, the BlackBerry BBM service could have another competitor with the launch of ChatON from Samsung.According to TechCrunch, the Samsung chat service also has one very significant tool in its armoury – it is cross platform. Yes, whether you are running Samsung’s own Bada mobile operating system, Android, iOS or BlackBerry, ChatON will happily run, keeping you in touch with more of your mates. Sat at your desk? ChatON has that covered too, with a web-based client also being offered, which, like the phone app, will allow users to have private one-to one-conversations or participate in group chats. ChatON also supports sharing media, like photos, videos, voice messages and contacts. On top of that, if you have a reasonably high-end smartphone, the service also offers text, images, calendar appointment and contact sharing. You can also comment on each other’s profiles, send multimedia messages that combine text and audio, and view your own 'Interaction Rank'. Yes, you get a rating for how chatty you are. Not that being top is likely to be anything to shout about. Unless Samsung offers a prize for it.ChatON will go live next month in over 120 countries and 62 languages, so we can presume the UK is covered there. Keep an eye on your respective app store.
