Missed out on the bargain HP TouchPad? Chances are that you did, with seriously high demand for the marked down tablets. Well, all is not lost, with the great webOS clearance likely to extend to the HP Pre 3 too.Yes, the Pre 3, which only got an official launch (albeit very quietly) six days ago, when HP offered the SIM-free version of the smartphone for £299 plus postage. Orange was also said to be stocking the phone, but as yet, hasn't announced anythng for the UK. Maybe it got wind of HP's intention?Anyway, according to the Daily Telegraph, that £299 price will soon be a thing of the past as HP attempts to clear stock. US sources have told the newspaper that the smartphone will sell for just £49 in the UK, although as yet, no retailers have been confirmed. Stay tuned is our advice, as an announcement is likely to be imminent. After that, it's a case of fastest fingers, as stock isn't going to hang around for long. On the face of it, a Pre 3 for £50 should be a good proposition, at least for the short-term. No updates and no new apps will leave the smartphone looking more than a little tired in a year's time. But in the short-term, it's a more-than-capable device, complete with 1.2GHz dual-core CPU, a 3.6-inch 800x480 WVGA display, slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a five-megapixel camera with auto-focus and LED flash and the option to shoot 720p HD video plus a front-facing camera for video calling. There's also 512MB of RAM, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1 and A-GPS.Sound appealing? As soon as we get those retailer details and the all-important selling date, we'll let you know.
