Vodafone is claiming a European first, specifically being the first network to offer operator billing for Android users. What does that mean? In short, it means you can pay for your apps and games without the need for credit card details. If you are a contract customer, the cost of apps will be added to your bill. Alternatively, for prepay customers, the app cost will come off your credit. As long as you've purchased your phone or tablet from Vodafone, you'll be entitled to use the new payment system. At least, you will when it launches. There is good news on that front too. Vodafone is rolling out the system first in the UK, as well as in Germany. Which is a postive for customers and a positive for developers of apps too. You see, speaking to developers on its blog, Vodafone said: 'This evolution in Android app payment greatly improves the user’s purchase experience and consequently their likelihood of completing a sale. In addition to facilitating the best possible user experience, Vodafone operator billing extends your reach to the large number of app buying customers who are unwilling or unable to use credit cards. In some countries this can be more than 90% of the market.'So good news all round when it lands. That should be any day now – keep checking your phone.
