BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 in UK on 12 August?

OK, we've got the launch out of the way and even managed to get a hands-on with the flagship BlackBerry 7 smartphone yesterday. All we need now is a UK launch date. You know what? We might have that too.

Two retailers are taking orders for the handset for the same date, which indicates that 12 August is the day when the Bold Touch 9900 will hit these shores. Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy are the two retailers concerned, with both offering the Bold Touch for free on contracts from £31 per month via the Vodafone network.

That lower deal gets you 300 minutes of calls each month, along with unlimited texts and 500MB of data over 24 months. Get down to your local store before next Friday if you want to be first in the queue.

The phone itself is one of the first with the BlackBerry 7 OS, as well as offering a 1.2GHz processor, the trademark QWERTY keyboard, a 2.8-inch touch-screen, 68MB of RAM and a five-megapixel camera with 720p video recording, all packed into RIM's slimmest BlackBerry ever. Check out that hands-on to get the full lowdown.
