It might sound slightly futuristic, but by installing LG Remote Call, LG staff can get inside your phone to fix it. It's not just limited to its native Korea either, with the app heading to Europe very soon. It's quite a clever idea and perhaps one that should have been done months if not years ago. After all, it's been working for computers for a number of years.
According to Crave, the company will connect to your phone over 3G or Wi-Fi, then access the Settings to track down the problem. Obviously if connectivity is the problem, that's not going to work. But if it's down to other functionality, theoretically, the folk at LG can sort it out for you. No more call centre staff telling you what to do, then waiting for you to do it – probably wrongly. This cuts out that unreliable middle man. They'll not be digging around your personal data either, not without your consent anyway. Not that we're suggesting you have anything humiliating on there. Oh no.The service will initially be available for premium Optimus phones, specifically the LG Optimus 2X, Optimus Black and Optimus 3D. It also downloads software upgrades direct to your LG phone, that part known as Firmware Over The Air (FOTA). The first launch, as you might have guessed, is in Korea, but LG users in Europe will not have long to wait. The 'second half of the year' (ie anytime from now) is being quoted for the app landing in the UK.
